The Chegaga Dunes are one of the two major dune fields of the Sahara in Morocco.
Stretching approximately 40 km in length and 15 km in width, some dunes reach heights of up to 300 meters.
The Chegaga Erg (or Chigaga) is one of the two major sand seas (ergs) of the Sahara in Morocco, the other being Erg Chebbi.
This dune massif, located in the Souss Massa Drâa region, lies about 50 km west of the rural town of M’Hamid El Ghizlane, which itself is approximately 98 km south of the city of Zagora.
With a length of about 40 km and a width of 15 km, this erg—whose dunes can reach heights of up to 300 meters—is the largest and wildest in Morocco.
Due to the challenging terrain, it is only accessible by 4x4 vehicle, on camel or on foot.
As a result, the Chigaga Erg is less visited and more untamed than the Erg Chebbi.
