It is considered one of the most impressive kasbahs in Morocco.
This remarkable structure, both in size and decoration, was built by the Quranic teacher of the Glaoui.
It was once featured on the old 50 dirham banknotes alongside the portrait of King Hassan II.
Originally founded in the 17th century, the kasbah was initially part of a fortified village, or ksar, strategically located along the river at the entrance of Skoura. This location was chosen by Madani El Glaoui to educate his sons in the reading of the Quran.
Today, the kasbah is the most prominent structure and occupies the long southern section of the complex, while the ruined ksar (the former village) lies to the north.
The kasbah appeared in the 1962 film Lawrence of Arabia.
It is still owned and maintained by the Nasiri family to this day.
Traditional local objects are still present within the kasbah, including tools, an olive press, a bread oven, and an old well.
