Taliouine

Taliouine is located in the Souss-Massa region, between Ouarzazate and Agadir, at an altitude of 1080 meters.

Taliouine is known as the capital of red gold and saffron cultivation.

It is located between Ouarzazate and Agadir and 100 km from Taroudant, situated on one of the most beautiful geological folds in Morocco, at 1080 meters altitude.

Saffron cultivation is one of the most important industries, employing a large part of the local population and providing them with the opportunity to work and earn an income.

This crop is essential due to the high price of saffron, and its cultivation and trade have become a significant source of income for families.

The saffron harvest takes place from mid-October to mid-November.

The pistils of the crocus are carefully collected by hand before sunrise.

It takes around 350 flowers to obtain 1 gram of dried pistil!

This explains its high price, making it one of the most expensive spices in the world.

During the last week of October and the beginning of November, a festival is dedicated to this spice, bringing together small producers from the region and traditional music groups.
